Are Blogging Courses Worth It?

Are Blogging Courses Worth It?

Are blogging courses worth it?

If you’re a blogger, you’ve likely come across plenty of blogging courses, and wondered which ones (if any) are actually worth the money.

Blogging courses are a dime a dozen these days.

It’s now easier than ever to create and sell an online course. The online course industry has really taken off in the past few years, making it very simple for anyone to launch a course. Many bloggers who have found success from blogging are now creating courses to teach others how to do the same thing.

But not all blogging courses are created equal.

Some courses are better than others. Read on for tips on finding out which blogging courses are actually worth the price tag, so you don’t waste your time and money paying for a course that will not actually help you.

Benefits of Blogging Courses

There are a number of benefits to blogging courses.

A GOOD blogging course can help you to…

  • Learn new skills to help you uplevel your blogging career
  • Achieve a specific result (such as creating your own product to sell, or learning how to land brand sponsorships on your blog) that will have an immediate, tangible impact on how much money you make from blogging
  • Achieve a specific result (such as learning how to utilize Pinterest for blog traffic, or optimizing your blog for SEO) that may not give you results right away, but will have a significant payoff for your blog long-term
  • Learn from experts, saving yourself from tons of trial and error
  • Save time researching things yourself and wading through the massive amount of information out there to determine what is actually relevant
  • Hold yourself accountable to your growth and success as a blogger
  • Provide support so you aren’t going at this whole blogging thing alone

When you invest in a blogging course, you’re really paying for a specific outcome.

You’re paying for someone else’s knowledge and expertise to get you there in the quickest and clearest route possible (if you take a GOOD course.)

I’ve taken dozens of blogging courses over the years.

Some of them helped me succeed in a BIG way, while others were not so helpful. As someone who has participated in several blogging bundles (like the Genius Blogger’s Toolkit) I’ve also had the opportunity to review at least 100 blogging courses so I’ve seen some really good ones, and some really bad ones.

What makes a blogging course good and worth the money?

How to Know If A Blogging Course Is Worth It

Before you click “buy” in a pricy blogging course, there are a few things you should look at first to determine if it’s a worthwhile purchase.

Do you know the creator? Maybe you’ve been following this person online for a while. You subscribe to their email list, read their blog posts, and watch their videos. If so, you probably have a good idea whether or not you can trust this person and their course, as opposed to someone with a course you saw a random Facebook ad for that made claims that sound too good to be true.

What experience do they have? Does the course creator have ACTUAL experience with blogging? Or do they just make money teaching others how to blog, without any real-life examples to back up their claims? I always recommend buying courses from bloggers who have had experience and success in a niche other than the “blogging about blogging” niche.

Are there testimonials for the course? One thing to look for before buying a course is testimonials from past students. Ideally, these testimonials will come from real people, and not just anonymous blurbs. Read the testimonials to see what kind of results past students have gotten from the course.

Does it seem like a good value? Especially if the course is at a higher price point, does it seem like everything that’s included inside will be worth the price tag? What kind of content is included in the course? Is it updated regularly? Are there additional bonuses included? Is there a community? Do you have direct access to the creator to ask questions? These are all good questions to ask.

Be wary of any courses that make outlandish claims (“Learn the secret to making $10,000 a month from your blog immediately when you take this course!”) or seem vague about what’s actually included inside the course.

How to Get the Most Out of Blogging Courses

Blogging courses only work if you put in the work too.

Too many people fall into the trap of buying a blogging course thinking it will magically solve all their problems or make them successful.

But the truth is, it doesn’t work that way.

You still have to take the time to go through the course piece by piece, and then implement everything you learned in order to see results.

Approach a blogging course like you would an actual course at college or at work. Some ways that you can take it seriously include:

  • Determining a timeframe for completing the course
  • Scheduling time to go through each section of the course
  • Eliminating all distractions when working through the course (don’t multitask or have the TV going in the background, for example)
  • Taking detailed notes on each lesson in the course
  • Scheduling time to implement what you have learned

This is the best way to ensure you get results from your investment!

Overpriced Blogging Courses

One more thing I wanted to touch on is the price of blogging courses.

I’ve seen too many aspiring bloggers spend WAY too much money on blogging courses, and in my personal opinion, I think it’s predatory to charge $1,000+ for extremely basic blogging courses that are designed for beginners.

I have not personally paid for any blogging courses that cost that much money, but I do believe there are some worthwhile high-ticket courses and programs out there. However, many of them are designed for more experienced bloggers who are ready to learn advanced skills to scale their business, and they have the ability to invest thousands of dollars in a course in order to do so.

For brand-new bloggers, you do not need to spend that much money.

You especially do not need to spend that much money if you are struggling financially, or would need to use a credit card to pay for the course and not be able to pay it off right away. And many of these pricy courses are not worth it!

There are affordable blogging courses out there that are much better. In fact, some of the most valuable blogging courses I’ve taken have been under $100.

Don’t fall victim to super-expensive blogging courses that make outrageous claims or use high-pressure sales tactics to convince you to buy.

30 Days to Blogging Success

Yes, I’m also including my own blogging course here because it’s my blog and I can! But seriously, I do recommend my own course for new bloggers.

30 Days to Blogging Success is the course that I wish I would have had when I first started blogging (but I hope it can help you now!)

It’s an introductory course that shows you how to start and grow a successful blog in just 30 days, following the same process I use for all my blogs. (I’ve started and sold profitable blogs in niches like travel, lifestyle, and college.)

And best of all, my course is only $27, because I want to make it accessible to as many people as possible and help you start your blog.
