Interview with Suzi from Start a Mom Blog
Today I am interviewing Suzi from Start a Mom Blog.
Suzi is one of my favorite blogging educators – she offers so much valuable content about everything from blogging basics to more advanced topics like email marketing and product creation for bloggers.
While her main audience is moms (as the name suggests!) I’ve found that her advice is applicable to all bloggers, whether you’re a mom or not. 🙂

Quick Note on Starting a Blog
Blogging has an extremely low start-up cost: You really only need to pay for web hosting (I recommend getting it through Bluehost because it’s only $3.95 a month) and a domain name for your blog. (And you get your domain name FREE with Bluehost, which saves you about $15-20.)
For the complete step-by-step tutorial on how to start your blog at a low cost, you can check out my guide on how to start a blog here.
You can also sign up for Blogging Bootcamp, my free email course that has helped hundreds of subscribers start their blogs…
And now let’s get into the interview with Suzi!
1. Could you give a little background on yourself and your website, Start a Mom Blog?
Hi, I’m Suzi! I have three awesome little kiddos ages 2, 4 and 5 years old. I studied Industrial Engineering in college and taught computer coding classes. So when I became a stay at home mom after years of being in corporate America, it was natural for me to pick up blogging.
I started with a Catholic parenting blog and loved every minute of it. My hubby and I both blogged on it and loved sharing our faith. My friends came over to my house for playdates and I would help them as we sat around the dining room table starting and growing blogs. It was a great way to connect with my friends and make new friendships online.
2. When did you start blogging? What inspired you to start your blog?
My first little blog was created in 2011, then when I left corporate America I started blogging again a bit more seriously in 2015. I was inspired to start my blog because honestly, I was lonely as a mother.
It’s hard for me to connect in person with other people and blogging just made it so much easier to make friends online.
I felt like I had a creative outlet again outside of motherhood, changing diapers and cleaning the house.
3. What did you do before you became a blogger?
I worked for amazing companies such as Walt Disney World and General Electric.
4. How do you make money now as a blogger?
I make most of my money through affiliate marketing and my own product sales. I do offer coaching but I have a very selective process.
5. What would be your best advice to anyone who wants to start a blog?
Don’t be afraid, nobody is perfect or has the perfect idea. And you don’t need to know everything to become successful. Focus on growing your audience and helping them – the money and success will follow a giving heart.

6. You created a course called Blog by Number – could you tell us a little more about that?
Oh, I love Blog by Number. It’s been taken by almost 9,000 students and it has over 65 in depth video tutorials. It helps moms start their blogs without getting overwhelmed by the tech.
It’s filled with templates, ideas and pre-made blogs so you can be up and running in a few hours! I also keep the course up to date with new tips and techniques to grow your blog – and my current students love that – since they get access to all the updates for life.
Editor’s note: I enrolled in Blog by Number and wrote a full review of the course, which you can read here. I highly recommend this course for new bloggers!
Thanks for the interview, Suzi!
